Most Masters courses for non-EU Students are on the Critical Skills List which means a student can stay back for two successive periods of two years after completion of their 1-year course. This is providing they are working in their chosen profession and therefore after 5 years are eligible for Irish Citizenship.

How’s it like living in Ireland?

Ireland known as the “Emerald Isle," has a rich environment, cultural heritage and friendly people. Ireland has a culturally diverse integrated society with over 160 nationalities living and working amongst its 5 million population.

The country’s equal opportunities employment laws have lead to many Universities, State organizations, Banks and major companies being lead by women with equal opportunities for promotion in the workplace.

Socially, it is recommended that students mix with all nationalities especially their fellow Irish students. This will help improve their English and fully utilize their social skills which will be of benefit in gaining employment when they finish their course.

Ireland is full of history with its Celtic monuments, Norman castles, diverse landscape, mountains, cliffs and beaches. The vibrant night life in its cities and towns, its traditional and modern music and wonderful range of food has to be experienced.

Ireland has a temperate climate with average summer temperate of 21 degrees and down to 2 degrees in winter.

Cost of living

Ireland’s currency is the euro (€) and is worth between 85-90 Indian rupee.

Cost of living in Ireland is similar to other European countries. Like all other capital cities in the world, it is more expensive to live in Dublin therefore Waterford, Cork, Limerick and Galway are cheaper to live in.

Living expenses can vary between €7000 to €10,000 per year but this can be supplemented with part-time work which is available.

Ireland allows non-EU students to work for 20 hours per week during semester and for 40 hours per week during their holidays, with a minimum wage of €10.50 per hour.

Tuition Cost

The tuition fees for Masters is between €9,000 - €23,000 for Science, Technology, Engineering and Business depending on course choice and University.

To supplement the cost of a course, students can avail of the numerous scholarships available from the Universities. These scholarships will be between €2000 to €10,000 and available to view after a course offer is made to a student.

Master’s Degree courses are Level 9 which is a post-graduate degree qualification in Ireland. It is recognized under the Washington Accord agreement and therefore a Master’s degree from Ireland is universally accepted for employment.

Normal Visa
  • VISA Fee: Single Entry- Rs 6700

AIP Visa (Approval In Principle Scheme)
  • For Pending final year mark sheets and provisional Certificate
  • Apply 7 weeks before Course state date
  • VISA will be issued (from Ireland Embassy New Delhi) after submission of missing documents
Funding at Visa
  • Tuition Fee plus Living Expense (€ 10,000) in liquid funds has to be presented in form Education Loan, Bank Savings or Fixed Deposit
  • Income proof of parents is required

Ireland “D-Type” student visa processing time is variable and typically takes six to eight weeks from date of application at VISA Office/ Consulate.

GNIB Residence Permit Initially VISA would be issued for 30-90 days and the student will have to register at GARDA National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) after arrival in Ireland with € 3,000 in Irish Bank account and Student ID Card. Students would have to Present the following documents,

  • Valid Passport
  • Confirmation of enrolment (Student ID Card)
  • Evidence of funds (bank savings, Loan letter)
  • Evidence of Health Insurance
  • Processing fee of € 300
  • Passport-size photograph – four

This residence permit allows you to stay in the country for up to 12 months and will receive a Certificate of Registration (known as a Green Book)
